COVID-19 Quarantine: DIY Tutorial To Make A Face Mask At Home

Ask anyone what their must-haves must include before they leave the house today and it will differ greatly from what they believed a couple of months ago. Earlier, the list would have veered between the wallet, mobiles, keys and money. Today, an essential on that list is the face mask. A face mask covers the nose and mouth to prevent infection from getting in. If you can't find them in supply at a chemist or portal, don't fret because you can make it at home. Sewing pro Kate Owen created a guide on how to make a face mask at home without using elastic.

Step 1 - You will need 2 cotton rectangles which will form the base of your mask. To fasten the mask securely around your face, you will need long cotton ties. Even ribbons could be used as an alternative.

Step 2 - Start by pinning both rectangles together with their outer sides facing each other.

Step 3 - Sew around the edges with a small portion left as is to turn it over completely. Trim the edges of the rectangle with a distance from the stitches.

Step 4 - Once sewn, flip in over to the right side and use a pencil or a pointed tool to poke out the corners. Iron it to flatten the mask.

Step 5 - Make pleats horizontally along the mask from the top and bottom and pin them down. along the sides.

Step 6 - Measure the ties or ribbons according to your face and sew it to border along either side of the mask.

There you have it! This mask can be much more comfortable as the ties adjust and there is no elastic tugging at your skin.
