With great power comes great responsibility. And nobody understands this better than Bollywood celebrities. While we know that some of them get trolled over absolutely nothing on social media, some others really have dug their own graves. A few days ago, when asked about the Kamla Mills fire in Mumbai, Hema Malini said in an interview, "Because of too much population. The city is growing like anything. Some restrictions should be done on population. After that, they should not be allowed, they should go to next city." This also isn't the first time an Indian celebrity has publicly said something so insensitive. Here are a few times other Bollywood celebs were insensitive on Twitter:
1. Ram Gopal Varma
On Women's Day, Ram Gopal Varma had tweeted, "I wish all the women in the world give men as much happiness as Sunny Leone gives." If this isn't a prime example of how to make everything around you about yourself, we don't know what is. His justification, once he was called out on this, was to blame people for being hypocritical. He later posted an apology for the tweet, but in our opinion, it just wasn't enough.
2. Raveena Tandon
We don't know if this was just a publicity stunt or a genuine foot-in-mouth moment, but when Raveena Tandon ironically 'communalised' the saree in one of her posts, Twitter did not take it well. And why should it? A saree is just a saree and not a political symbol. And we would very much like it to remain that way, thank you very much.
A sareee day ... will I be termed communal,Sanghi, bhakt, hindutva icon?if I say I love wearing the saree and I think it's the most elegant pic.twitter.com/3ZYDJcyKJk

3. Salman Khan
When it comes to Salman Khan, there is just too much of a grey area, it seems. No matter what he is accused of doing, his community of fans always has his back. In 2015, he posted a series of tweets claiming that Yakub Memon, the man convicted for his involvement in the Mumbai bombings, shouldn't be hanged; instead his brother Tiger Memon, the prime suspect should. He later deleted his tweets after being advised that they could be misunderstood... We think the tweets couldn't have been more clear though. Oh, well.
4. Hrithik Roshan
The Hrithik-Kangana battle has been going on forever, hasn't it? And while Hrithik Roshan has been quite graceful about it all, he too has lost his composure once or twice. Like that time he tweeted, "There are more chances of me having had an affair with the Pope than any of the (I'm sure wonderful) women the media has been naming. Thanks but no thanks." Why drag the Pope into your love life issues, Hrithik?
5. Paresh Rawal
We all remember the chai-wala comment, right? In case you missed it, sometime ago, MP Paresh Rawal tweeted, "Our Chai-Wala is any day better than tour Bar-Wala!" He posted this in response to a viral meme. The 'chai-wala' refers to PM Narendra Modi and the 'bar-wala' refers to Sonia Gandhi, who, once upon a time, worked as a waitress. He did the right thing by posting an apology later, but there was an underlying problem that got highlighted here - the way people, leaders, think about women.
6. Sonu Nigam
Twitter's character limit was too less for Sonu Nigam to successfully offend his audience, it seems. He took to Twitter to express his frustration about the azaan waking him up early morning as it played on a loudspeaker. He even went on to call it 'gundagardi'. This, with good reason, was deemed as highly insensitive on his part. India is home to millions of Muslims and naturally, his direct attack on something so sacred to them was not taken well.
Waiting for the tweet saying that Sonu Nigam's account was hacked and these tweets to be deleted. pic.twitter.com/22oVArngB1

7. Shashi Tharoor
Manushi Chhillar was recently crowned Miss World. While other celebrities took to social media to congratulate her, Shashi Tharoor, in the hope to be funny, tried to make a play of words with her last name. He tweeted, "What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our 'Chhillar' (loose change) has become Miss World!". The sad attempt wasn't met with giggles as he was probably expecting, but a demand for an apology from the National Commission of Women, which he later posted.
8. Abhijeet Bhattacharya
Where should we begin? There are just so many times he's been offensive on social media that his profile has actually been reported by users and finally removed by Twitter. One of the more recent incidents we remember is when he went on a homophobic rampage against Karan Johar and Fawad Khan. One of his tweets said, "Another #lovejihad .. Mehbooba #KaranJohar is in depression ..pak lover fawad ditched bechari Mrs @KaranJohar Khan." This happened before the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, after Karan confirmed that Fawad Khan wasn't going to be the first guest on Koffee with Karan. There were absolutely no apologies made for his foul remarks.
9. Twinkle Khanna
She can do no wrong, can she? Wrong. A while ago, Mallika Dua shared online just how uncomfortable she felt when Akshay Kumar said, "Aap bell bajaiye, main aapko bajata hoon", to her on The Laughter Challenge. Twinkle Khanna claimed she got carried away, emotionally, when she posted the tweet below. We can honestly say that this isn't what we expected from Mrs. Funnybones. Lame jokes or just jokes in poor taste?
I couldn't resist these two and after this I am done :) #LameJokes pic.twitter.com/3mMckTtmDu
