
Here we are again - wistfully looking back at the weekend that went by and staring long and hard at yet another Monday. How many of us had the hardest time getting out of bed today? How many of us didn't get out of bed at all and called in sick (yeah, best of luck with the pay cut).
But that's just how Monday feels. Espresso shots, hurried breakfast, and the feeling of dread for the week that is to come. But after spending an entire Sunday in bed, I was thinking about how Monday isn't that bad after all; we have so much time to laze about with an empty mind on a Sunday that we all tend to spiral down a rabbit hole of unwanted feelings and thoughts. Well, the less sorted of us anyway.
But here's the thing: maybe it is all in our heads and Mondays don't really have to be this bad. Mind over matter is one thing, but maybe Mondays are demonised when they don't really have to be.
But if you still insist, how about we just take a minute to see how we can make our Mondays a little better?
1. Treat yourself with an amazing breakfast
This means you will have to actually wake up on time but hey! all worth it, eh? An hour of sleep in return for a great day? Sounds like a win-win.
2. Make a plan to meet a friend in the evening
It is just as simple as that - you are gearing up for a whole new week, how about starting off the week with some pep talk with a friend over some good coffee?
3. Indulge in some online shopping for your soul
In the middle of the day, I have found some retail therapy to be a great feel-good. It is like you are setting up a present for yourself and the happiness is two fold - some when you are ordering, and the rest for when it reaches.
4. Gym rat? How about making Monday your cheat day?
Because while you are already battling Monday blues, you hardly need to add to that some broccoli soup and raw eggs.
5. Change your outlook
Look at it this way - its the beginning of a new week, new possibilities, and more shots to do things differently. You have had your weekend worth of rest and now you get to hustle through the week. Start something new, do an old thing differently, mix it up.
6. Dress up
How you dress massively decides how you feel, therefore jazz up that Monday outfit. Put on some perfume. Get that spring in your step.
7. Sing
I kid you not - sing out loud on a Monday. Amp up your iPod and sing along to some peppy music to get you all excited for the week ahead.
