While summer is the perfect time to slip on your swimsuit and take in the rays, it's also that time of the year when you must tread carefully with your skin. The right skin care tips can be the difference between a healthy face and one that's darkened, dry and damaged. To make the most of summer and give your skin the utmost care, try these six dos and stay away from the don'ts this season.

Do - Reapply Your Sunscreen

By now, you already know that broad spectrum sunscreen is a must, not just on sunny days but throughout the year. Especially in this season however, make it a point to reapply your sunscreen. Due to factors like sweat and dust, sunscreen fades away throughout the day, rendering it ineffective. For its SPF to be as potent as possible, make it a point to reapply your sunscreen every three to four hours.

Don't - Cake Up Your Makeup

It's going to be sticky outside and if you overdo your makeup with too many layers, it will end up leaking and messy. Harsh but true. Since nobody wants that, opt for BB creams, blush and kohl rimmed eyes for a light makeup look that won't weigh your skin down.

Do - Exfoliate Your Face

Along with the natural regeneration of skin cells, your face tends to collect dust and grime over the days which makes it look dull. That's why it is important to exfoliate your skin once a week, or twice if your have oily skin in summer. Not only will it banish dirt, it will prevent your pores from getting clogged and further, breaking out.

Don't - Fail To Moisturise

While moisturising may have been your key focus during the cold months, don't forget about it in summer. With the high temperatures of the season, the body gets parched and dry so opt for a lightweight body lotion which will hydrate it without feeling sticky.

Do - Powder Up

In summer, chaffing is a very real problem. When ignored, it can leave your thighs, upper torso and underarms sore and pink. To prevent this from happening, liberally dust talcum powder or even cornstarch on areas where you face the most friction so that this can act like a barrier and stop it in its tracks.

Don't - Forget About Hydration

Along with moisturising your skin externally, hydrate from the inside out too. You can do this by drinking two litres of water throughout the day and eating plenty of water-rich fruits and vegetables. This will work doubly to keep your skin healthy and firm through the season.
