5 Tips To Follow If You Are Travelling During Navratri
1. Be A Traveller, Not A Tourist
We tend to do all the touristy things when we visit new places. But avoid doing this when you are travelling to places in India during festivities. Instead of going to places to see, be a part of the celebrations. Experience the different cultures and traditions of the different places. Visit the Mysore palace which is decked up for the nine nights or witness the dhunuchi naach in Kolkata. These experiences will prove to be unforgettable.
2. Know The History
If you are visiting a particular place during a festival, ensure that you know the history, the stories and ideas behind the festival. This will help you understand the culture of the place and also the traditions of the place. For example Durga Puja marks the victory of Durga as she demolished Mahishsura while Dussehra is celebrated as a triumph of Lord Rama over Ravana.
3. Carry Traditional Outfits
We usually tend to carry comfortable casual wear on a holiday. But while packing the bags when going on a vacation, try to carry at least 1 or 2 sets of traditional outfits. You never know what opportunity may turn and you would need those ethnic wear outfits. You can also buy a set of traditional attires from the places you visit and attend social gatherings to know more about the costumes.
4. Try The Local Delicacies
Every state has its own set of dishes which are made during the festive season. So if you are someone who doesn't like experimenting with street food or local delicacies, this is the time to get out of your comfort zone. Try the lip-smacking local delicacies, sweets and savouries alike.
5. Carry Your Food If Fasting
Incae you fast during the Navratri, it is better to travel with food items that are allowed while fasting. It is often possible that you forget to carry the food supplies and end up compromising with the diet during your holiday. Carry fruits, milk, juices or anything that usually consume when fasting so that you are not left hungry while travelling.
