Gowda seeks cooperation of lawyers, media to resolve impasse

Shimoga: With the confrontationamong lawyers, mediapersons and police over the violence inBangalore city civil court complex continuing, Chief MinisterD V Sadananda Gowda today called for restraint and soughttheir cooperation for an amicable settlement to the issue.

The advocates are continuing their indefinite boycott ofcourts across the state insisting that the government accepttheir demands for action against police officials for"assaulting" lawyers during the violence on March 2 andmedia's "one-sided" reports against them.

Gowda urged lawyers and mediapersons to exerciserestraint and introspect on their responsibilities and solvethe impasse amicably.

Scores of people, including 54 police personnel, wereinjured when the advocates let loose violence at the citycivil court complex attacking mediapersons.

He said the upcoming Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypolland presentation of his maiden budget were two of hisimmediate challenges and expressed optimism of presenting thebudget on March 21 without any hindrance.

Gowda's remarks come in the backdrop of continuedpressure mounted by his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa to regainthe chief ministerial post.
