Couple accuses hospital of exchanging new-born boy with girl

Jaipur: A woman, Alisha, who gave birth to a child in a government hospital, has accused the hospital staff of allegedly exchanging her newborn boy with a baby girl, family sources said.

The woman claimed that the Kanwatia Hospital authorities exchanged the baby boy delivered by her with that of a female child last night.

The hospital authorities have, however, denied the charge. "My wife gave birth to a boy but after 15 minutes of delivery, a hospital staff gave her a girl. We do not know if it was a deliberate act or a mistake, but we want our boy,"Irshad, the woman's husband, told reporters.

"We suspect that the girl is two-three days old and we want a fair investigation," he said.

Meanwhile, Hariom Sharma, in-charge of the hospital located in Shastri Nagar, dismissed the allegations as baseless.

"The woman gave birth to a girl, and not boy and there is no negligence on part of the hospital staff. No other delivery took place when Alisha gave birth to the girl as it was the only case of delivery last night," he said.

Earlier, on April 2, a baby girl was abandoned in a Jodhpur hospital as two couples fought over the boy.
