Yeddyuappa government in Karnataka has completed 1,000 days in office and celebrated the occasion with a huge rally in Bangalore.
Solidly backed by party president Nitin Gadkari, Yeddyurappa dismissed Opposition talk of mid-term polls and asserted that his government would complete its five-year term.
However, it has been a rough one year for the Karnataka chief minister who faced Opposition heat over corruption scandals and survived rebellion from within his party, when 11 BJP MLAs and 5 independent members withdrew support.
A few Opposition Congress and JD(S) leaders have in recent days speculated that the government might be contemplating dissolving the House and facing the electorate.
Addressing the rally, Gadkari praised the Yeddyurappa government for its development agenda for farmers, poor sections, attracting investment and employment generation.
"The Congress does not feel good we are in power in Karnataka," he said, alleging that the Opposition has repeatedly tried "through the medium of Governor and also through some other medium" to destabilise the Government.
But people rejected their "propaganda" as evident in results of the recent zilla and taluk panchayat polls in which they showed they are "with BJP, Yeddyurappa and ministers".
Senior BJP leader H N Ananth Kumar also said there is no question of a mid-term poll and that the party would complete its term.
Yeddyurappa, turning emotional at times, blasted Opposition parties for their "pin-pricks" and below-the-belt" attacks against his government, adding, they are not able to digest the "good work" done.
These parties nurse fears they may have to sit in the Opposition for the next 20 years if BJP is allowed to continue in office, he said.
Today's rally was touted as a show of strength by BJP and positioned as one to thank people and congratulate party workers for their support in successive victories in different elections.
Yeddyurappa said the Government would organise a Global Investors Meet for the agriculture sector in June for attracting investment of Rs 55,000 crore.
