New Delhi:

In what will come as good news for the Congress, sources in the Left have told NDTV that while they are still working towards a non-Congress, non-BJP government at the Centre, they will never allow the BJP to form the government.

The Left also said that it is exploring sitting in the Opposition as the last resort.

Meanwhile, sources in the Congress have said that the Left could allow minority Congress led government as an alternative the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The sources have also said that the minority government may allow Mamata to stay in the Congress alliance.

As per the Congress sources, back channel talks with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati are still on.

Meanwhile, as the counting day approaches, the Left leaders are meeting to discuss their strategy.

Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi also called up Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the BJP is already hard at work, trying to cobble up the numbers. After holding a strategy meet with party president Rajnath Singh, party's prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani is meeting Narendra Modi on Thursday. The Gujarat strongman flew to Delhi on Thursday morning to be part of the discussions on alliances.
