Union Railway Minister Sadanandra Gowda's son Karthik has been accused of rape by actress
Union Minister Sadananda Gowda's son Karthik, who has been accused of rape and cheating by an actress, appeared before the police in Bangalore today in connection with the case against him.
He was granted anticipatory bail on Monday. A court in Bangalore had last week issued an arrest warrant against him but the police said they were not able to question him or even find him. On Monday, the court said he must cooperate with the police and submit a personal bond of two lakh rupees.
In her police complaint filed two week ago on the day Karthik got engaged to another woman, the young actress has accused him of "rape, kidnapping and cheating."
She says she will move the High Court against Karthik's anticipatory bail.
She claims he took her to Mangalore and married her there on June 5.
"He told me I am his wife and I should listen to what he says. We became physically close after that. He did not even tell me he was getting engaged. He is my husband. He has to admit that he married me," the woman told the media.
Karthik Gowda has denied her allegations and alleged a conspiracy in Congress-ruled Karnataka to discredit his father and ruin his political career.
Mr Gowda, who is Railway Minister in the central government, has said, "Take action against my son if he has done anything wrong. I would say the allegations against him are false. He is my son, but if the allegations are true then action can be taken."
