Top cop's flip-flop in the German Bakery Blast case

Top cop's flip-flop in the German Bakery Blast case
Udgir, Maharashtra: A senior Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) officer on Thursday contradicted his chief's claim by saying that LeT operative Himayat Baig did not accompany Mohammed Ahmed Zarar Siddibappa alias Yasin, who allegedly planted a bomb at the German Bakery, only to retract later saying it was a goof up on his part as he had incomplete information.

"It was a goof up on my part. I had incomplete information and that was the reason there were discrepancies in the versions. ATS chief Rakesh Maria's version is correct,"
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ravindra Kadam said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, while talking to reporters in Udgir, atown in Latur district, Kadam said, "After they (suspected IM member Mohsin Choudhary, Yasin and Baig) made the bomb here,
Mohsin and Yasin went to Pune where Yasin planted the bomb in the German Bakery on February 13. Later they (the duo) left in different directions." Asked if Baig had been to Pune, Kadam replied in the negative.

After the arrest of Baig last week, Maria had said that on the day of the blast, Baig stood outside as Mohammed Ahmed planted the explosive device. "In January, Baig along with Mohammed Ahmed and Mohsin Choudhary had held a conspiracy meeting at his Gold Internet cafe in Udgir to select their targets and German bakery was chosen as it was frequented by foreigners," Maria had said.

Maria had further claimed, "On February 3, another meeting was held in Udgir. From February 7, they started making the bomb which was brought to Pune a day before the blast. On February 13, Mohammed Ahmed took the bomb to the bakery around 4 pm and left within a couple of minutes while Baig was standing outside."

When contacted today, Maria said different teams were assigned different work pertaining to the probe. "The teams went to different parts of the state and the country. If anybody want any information about the investigation, they can come and ask me since I am supervising the probe." He refused to comment on the contradictory statement given by his junior.
