Patna:

Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday announced that they will provide the entire annual financial aid of Rs 30,000 to women in January next year if they are voted to power in Bihar.

The announcement, which came two days ahead of the first phase of voting in the state, was made in a bid to counter the ruling NDA's 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana', as part of which Rs 10,000 has already been transferred into the accounts of over 1 crore women to start their own businesses.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Yadav, the opposition Grand Alliance's chief ministerial face, said they will give women Rs 30,000 under their 'Mai Bahin Maan Yojana' on the day of Hindu festival 'Makar Sankranti' (on January 14).

"I have been to many places and interacted with women. All the mothers and sisters in Bihar are excited about the 'Mai Bahin Maan Yojana'. People say that this scheme will provide them with economic justice," he told reporters.

According to the manifesto released by the Opposition last week, women were promised Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance starting December 1 and Rs 30,000 per year for the next five years.

Yadav, however, said they will transfer the entire amount on January 14 on the "demand of the mothers and sisters" of Bihar.

He also said the farmers will get Rs 300 per quintal of paddy and Rs 400 for wheat as a bonus over the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Yadav, the former Bihar deputy chief minister, said they will ensure transfer and posting of teachers, police personnel, healthcare workers and other employees within a 70-kilometre radius of their home district.

He also reiterated that they will implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

The polling in Bihar is scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11. The votes will be counted on November 14.
