Bengaluru:

Senior BJP leader and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is addressed a press conference on the sidelines of his party's national executive meet in Bengaluru.

Here is what he has said:

  • The first part (of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech today was) on the further stregthening of the organisation, while complimenting on functioning of the organisation.
  • He (PM Modi) endorsed the campaign which the party president is starting for setting up a party office in every district of the country.
  • The Prime Minister said because this is the centenary year of Dindayalji (Upadhyay), the whole effort has been to keep in the mind the upliftment of the poor. Most of the party programmes are for the weaker sections of the society.
  • We view 'Swachh Bharat' also through that prism, that there will be less expnditure on healthcare for the poor.
  • There are strong views within the party to campaign on all issues.
  • There is a strong view in the party to fully back the Prime Minister.
  • The party has endorsed all decisions taken by the government.
  • The party is firmly behind the on the land bill.
  • The Opposition has spread a false campaign on the land bill.
  • The (UPA's) 2013 bill, and this is one of the points I made, was an anti-farmer bill. The 2015 amendment seeks to correct it.
  • The large part of the discussion was on rural infrastructure, roads, irrigation, electrification and housing of the poor.
  • The land bill will help rural India through industriual corridors. Industrialisation in rural India will provide jobs to the poor.
  • Co-ordination between the party and the government has never been a problem, at least not in the last 10 months.
  • If we have lost in Delhi, we have won several other elections. So definitely, this also came up for discussion.
  • The speech was on 'topics'. (In response to a question on senior leader LK Advani.)
  • It is just a comment, so that you should not just see the government as an instrument for change. The party is also important.
