Special drive to be launched against illegal water trolleys

New Delhi: As a step to prevent vector-borne diseases, a special drive would soon be launched against the illegal water trolleys and sugarcane juice vendors in the capital.

This was decided in a review meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shahstri who instructed officials to take all possible measures to check dengue and malaria in the city.

Shastri told reporters that Asha workers would be engaged in anti-malaria and dengue drive and also create awareness among the masses.

Stressing on the need for awareness about the dangers of mosquitoes breeding in houses and other premises, Shastri instructed the officials to issue legal notices and chalans to the owners of buildings for non-compliance of anti-larval measures.

Shastri said this week, one case of malaria was reported whereas 34 cases of cholera were reported whereas no dengue case was reported, a statement said in Delhi.

Steps have also been taken to ensure proper distribution of chlorine tablets in each part of the capital.
