Six security personnel killed in Manipur mudslide

Imphal: Six security personnel were killed and 10 injured on Wednesday when mounds of earth caved in, when the vehicle they were travelling in was trying to cross a stretch of road hit by a massive landslide in Manipur.

A police spokesperson said the incident took place on National Highway 53 near village Ksenam, about 38 km from state capital Imphal.

"A vehicle carrying about 20 Manipur State Rifles and India Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel was on a routine patrol when a heavy mudslide buried the vehicle, killing six on the spot," a senior police official said.

Ten security personnel were injured.

"Huge mounds of earth and boulders caved in and almost buried the vehicle, trapping the security personnel inside," the official said.
