Gearing up for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the BJP on Monday said it is confident of achieving its mission of winning more than 44 seats to form the next government in the state.
"With the efforts of all the workers, BJP will definitely form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir," senior BJP leader and former IGP, Farooq Khan said.
The former IPS officer, flanked by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state chief Ravinder Raina, was addressing the day-long Working Committee meet at Rajouri district here.
Mr Khan lauded the efforts made by party workers during the Lok Sabha elections in which three out of six parliamentary seats in the state went to BJP.
He encouraged workers, asking them to gear up and increase the pace of work to reach out to every nook and corner of the state in order to meet people's expectations from the party.
Mr Raina also expressed his views on important issues and suggested ways and means to contribute to 'Mission 44+' seats.
Noting that people of the state are "fed-up" with the alleged misrule of the NC-Congress coalition government, Mr Raina said that better co-ordination between Shakti Kendra and Ward Presidents with polling booth workers is very important.
"It is the most opportune time for the people of the state to throw the NC-Congress coalition government," he said, adding that only BJP is the single party that can bring change in the state.
District Party President Bharat Bushan Vaid presented the detailed report on the party's organisational setup and different programmes undertaken during the past months.
He assured that the district unit will further gear up its activities to mobilise more and more voters in favour of the party.
With state elections due soon, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on the 12th of this month, his second trip since he took over in May.
The Prime Minister will visit Kargil and Leh in Ladakh, where he will address public rallies and will also inaugurate a power transmission project.
Mr Modi had visited J&K in early July for a whirlwind day-long tour and had said, "I want to win the hearts of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through development." On that trip he had flagged off a new train to Katra, the base town for the Vaishno Devi shrine and had also inaugurated the second phase of a hydel project in Uri.
(Read)In this year's national election, the BJP had for the first time won three of J&K's six Lok Sabha seats - including the Leh seat by a margin of 36 votes. That performance has emboldened the party to aim for what it calls its "Mission 44+." The J&K assembly has 87 seats and 44 is the half-way mark for a majority to form government.
The BJP's best performance in the state elections so far has been 11. The party credits its significant gains in the general elections to what it calls the "Modi wave."
On his Ladakh visit, Mr Modi is expected to again invoke the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the first BJP prime minister. In July he said the Katra rail project built on Mr Vajayee's effort to link J&K to the rest of the country.
The BJP government pegs the ambitious 2000-crore Srinagar-Leh Transmission Line too as a Vajpayee initiative. It was first announced by the former PM when he visited the region in 2003.
Ten years later, the Congress' P Chidambaram had as finance minister announced the construction of the transmission line in his budget speech of 2013.
The transmission line will be built at an altitude of over 10,000 feet in snowy terrain and will connect the region to the Northern Grid. It is expected to ease the power crunch in the Leh-Kargil region.
