Home Minister Rajnath Singh was admitted in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday night, with complaints of pain in his lower abdomen, sources close to him said.
Mr Singh, 63, had been admitted in the Gastroenterology department at AIIMS at around 8.30pm on Wednesday evening and is currently under observation, they said.
Rajnath Singh had been suffering from stomach cramps for the last few days, but on Wednesday evening it got worse with a severe back pain.
The doctors at the Gastroenterology department at AIIMS couldn't provide a clear diagnosis last night as certain tests were needed to be done this morning.
He is expected to be discharged from the hospital today.
