Rahul Gandhi Delhi Protest Live: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station along with the victim of the reported use of pellet guns on the July 20 protests. Gandhi has demanded the registration of a case over the use of pellet guns.
Gandhi visited the police station to support the victim, Sahil Lochab, in his demand to register an FIR into the pellet gun firing issue. As the cops refused to file an FIR, Gandhi, along with the pellet gun victim, then sat on a dharna outside the police station.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior party leaders also joined the dharna.
Lochab suffered pellet injuries to the eyes and abdomen during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest against the NEET paper leak and alleged examination irregularities, and later underwent surgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Gandhi and the Congress party have been attacking the Centre, accusing it of using excessive police force to silence the voice of students while they peacefully protested against paper leaks at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
Here are the LIVE Updates of Rahul Gandhi Protest in Delhi:
Rahul Gandhi Dharna LIVE: Pellet Gun Victim Sahil Lochav
On 20th July, pellet guns were fired at me. I was admitted to Lady Hardinge, from there, I was referred to AIIMS. I underwent surgery at AIIMS. But the vision in my eye is still not clear. On 14th August, I wrote a 7-page complaint and gave to my lawyer...But the FIR has not been registered.
Rahul Gandhi Delhi Protest LIVE: Pellet Gun Victim Sahil Lochav's Lawyer
- On 14th August we went to the Police Station in Connaught Place. They said that all Jantar Mantar cases have come to Parliament Street Police Station. We came here. They told us that the place of incident is Connaught Place area, so we should go there.
- We went back to them. The moment they read the complaint, they gave it back to us and made us sit there for very long.
- SHO spoke to me personally on phone and he told me that they won't take up the case and as they have received order from above.
- At the end of the day, we reached out to DCP Crime Branch and we were told that complaints don't reach there directly. After the LoP came here, the complaint was only stamped but an FIR is still not being registered.
- This is a clear offence that has happened. We have an MLC copy of Lady Hardinge which says punctured wounds and blood oozing out
Rahul Gandhi On His Dharna
- Pellet gun was used at Connaught Place on 20th July. AIIMS report clearly says that there are more than 200 shells inside his body and 3 in his eye.
- He has lost vision in that eye.
- There are shells near his heart that cannot be touched.
- Delhi Police say they did not fire pellet guns. So, there is just one question: someone must have done it...A crime has indeed happened...We are demanding that an FIR be registered.
- They told us that they have received order from the top and they cannot file an FIR.
- We won't budge from here until an FIR is registered.
- All we demand is justice for this family. In this country, Amit Shah's Home Ministry and Delhi Police personnel won't let justice happen.
