Priyanka Gandhi starts weekly meeting for Sonia's constituency
New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi has begun taking greater interest in Gandhi family's pocket borough of Rae Bareily. She will now meet people from Rae Bareily, her mother Sonia Gandhi's constituency, every Wednesday at Delhi to discuss their issues and problems. This initiative began last week.

However, sources in the Congress party have denied that Priyanka Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Sources say that concerns about Congress President Sonia Gandhi's health is a major factor behind the move. Mrs Gandhi is likely to reduce the number of public meetings she attends, sources add.

Sources said that Priyanka's brother Rahul Gandhi, who is an MP from Amethi, will continue to handle the affairs in his constituency.

Mrs Gandhi is an MP from Rae Bareily, and her daughter Priyanka has campaigned at length for her mother from there. However, in the state assembly polls held earlier this year, despite both Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi campaigning extensively along with their mother Sonia Gandhi, the Congress lost eight out of the 10 Assembly seats in the twin Lok Sabha constituencies of Amethi and Rae Bareily. The Congress has had a stronghold in both these constituencies since decades.
