Pakistan presidential hopeful Mamnoon Hussain has his roots in Agra
Agra: The family of Pakistan's presidential hopeful Mamnoon Hussain is fondly remembered by neighbours in Agra, where he was born in 1940.

According to Imam Qureishi, now a frail 95, Mamnoon was born in the Chhoti Hatai mohalla of the Naiki Mandi locality of the city and studied in Ahmadia Madrasa of the area before his family migrated to Pakistan in 1948.

Recalling his association with Hussain's family, Qureishi said he knew Manmoon's father Kalloo Qureishi well.

His grandfather Ustad Zafar Qureishi was a well-known shoe manufacturer, who had earned the moniker 'Ustad' for his ability to make rare shoes, he recalls.

One of the shoes, that he made on an order from a British official, had its sole made of watermelon skin, but it was made so well that it was not possible to make out the material from the outside, he says.

A leading businessman of Pakistan and a close associate of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain belongs to the Urdu-speaking ethnic group that migrated from India during partition.

Ruling PML-N led by Sharif has named Hussain as its presidential candidate for which polls will be held on July 30.

He is expected to easily win the presidential poll as the PML-N has a clear majority in the electoral college comprising members of parliament and the four provincial assemblies.
