Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu today went to Sabarmati Ashram together after completing their eight kilometre roadshow. It started from the airport till Sabarmati Ashram, also known as Gandhi Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi lived for more than a decade. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu was received at the airport by PM Modi. Around 50 stages were made along the route that PM Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu took to Sabarmati Ashram. People from different states and union territories performed and welcomed the two leaders and visiting dignitaries at various points as they pass by.

As they arrived in Mumbai, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife were received by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the airport, news agency ANI reported.

Thanking his Israeli counterpart for taking out time to meet farmers, PM Modi speaking at the Centre of Excellence, said, "Our relation with Israel through Centre of Excellence has to be taken forward to bring about change. I thank PM Netanyahu for taking time for our farmers and talking to them." 

"We are working towards doubling farmer incomes by 2022. For this, optimum utilisation of land resources, ensuring minimum wastage & understanding the needs of the market assume importance," he was quoted as saying by ANI.

While speaking at the Centre of Excellence in Gujarat's Vadrad, Israel PM  Benjamin Netanyahu said, "I know something about Mashav. We operate in many countries but the biggest project that Mashav has is here in India because India has a leader, has a vision."

During his visit to Sabarmati Ashram, Benjamin Netanyahu described Mahatama Gandhi as the greatest prophets of humanity. 

In a four-line message jointly signed by Mr Netanyahu and his wife Sara in the visitor's log book at the ashram, the Israeli dignitaries said their "visit was inspiring". "An inspiring visit to the hearth of one of humanity's great prophets of inspiration- Mahatma Gandhi-," Mr Netanyahu wrote in the book, PTI reported.

  • When I went to Israel last year, I made up my mind to make our ties stronger. Since then I have been waiting for my friend Netanyahu to come. I am happy that he also came to Gujarat.
  • I remember when we first thought of iCreate, the project came to Prof Vasani. Unfortunately, he was unwell for a long time and today he is not there among us. But his vision of iCreate is there with us
  • He sowed the seeds, but today we can see the tree. Soon we will see the fruits of this big initiative.

After visiting Sabarmati Ashram, PM Modi and his counterpart Netanyahu will now take a helicopter to the campus of icreate, or the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology, an autonomous institution located in Dev Dholera village, about 50 km from Ahmedabad, for the exhibition.

The Israeli Prime Minister, who had reached India on a six-day visit on Sunday, has showered praise on PM Modi and called him a "revolutionary leader" who is "catapulting the magnificent state into the future". Prime Minister Modi has called the Gujarat visit an opportunity "to see the fulfilment of the promise, which our mutual cooperation holds in diverse areas such as agriculture, technology, and innovation".

"The city of Ahmedabad will greet Mrs and Mr Netanyahu with a reception, as they proceed to Sabarmati Ashram from Ahmedabad Airport," PM Modi's office said in a statement ahead of the visit. Tight security arrangements have been made in Ahmedabad for the visiting dignitaries and traffic will be blocked along the route of the roadshow between 7 am and noon today, the Gujarat Police has announced.
