Mukul Roy's only demand on the first day of his job

Mukul Roy's only demand on the first day of his job
New Delhi: The new Railways Minister, Mukul Roy, may have a huge task at hand of reviving the ailing behemoth, but he has spoken about what he wants as soon as he takes charge of the ministry.

Mr Roy today requested that the furniture in his office should be arranged the same way as Mamata Banerjee used to have it when she was the Railways Minister.

The furniture arrangement had been changed during Dinesh Trivedi's term. Mr Roy was sworn in as Railways Minister at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday morning; he replaces Mr Trivedi who resigned on Sunday.

Mr Roy's predecessor Dinesh Trivedi has been lauded by the Prime Minister, Cabinet colleagues and industry for his bold Rail Budget, in which he announced an increase in train passenger fares, the first in nine years. It was that move that also cost him his job. So upset was his party chief, that she first demanded his removal from the Cabinet and then forced him to resign.
