Metro accident a setback for Games 2010?
New Delhi:

The accident at the Metro Rail construction site in Delhi on Sunday has once again brought the focus back on city's preparedness for the Commonwealth Games next year.

So far, the Metro has delivered on time but after Sunday work on other lines could slow down as questions are raised on just what could have gone wrong.

The line to the southern Delhi in Badarpur border has been delayed by three months. But will the other three -- to Noida, Gurgaon and the Delhi airport -- be affected?

Sunday's disaster means the construction material, the techniques and working methods are all under investigation, which could have a repercussion on how work is carried out on other lines.

"The committee will analyse the material used, check with the contractor and have asked for a report in ten days," said E Sreedharan, MD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Despite the Metro's excellent record in completing projects ahead of schedule the pressure is building as the target is October 2010 when the Commonwealth Games are held in the capital.

Finishing the projects before deadline was new for this country; Metro made Delhi proud. But this accident, second in the last nine months might affect that credibility.
