New Delhi/ Kolkata:
A day after Mamata Banerjee announced that she was exiting the UPA government in protest against a menu of new reforms introduced last week, she addressed the media in Kolkata once again.
Here are the highlights of what she said:
I request Congress leaders not to distort facts. They must communicate reality
We are very transparent and the people know our credentials
My party will suffer for this, I don't mind. If people are OK, everything will be OK
I am just watching - suddenly some Congress govt says, I'll give 9 cylinders. Govt should give at least 2 cylinders minimum per month
UPA is always talking about economic reforms. Reforms come from the grassroots, it cannot come from the skies. It is for the country, the people of the country
There is a new trend - raise petrol prices by 100% and then reduce Re 1
I can give 100%, but then taxes should be allowed to the states
States get 32% of the central taxes - we get about 7% - but actually that is only 2.3%
I do not understand - how can they say the states are free to accept or not accept FDI. When the centre makes a policy, it is applicable to the whole country
When the honourable President was the Finance Minister, there was a statement in the house that they will not implement this without consent from the states. I was never informed about FDI decisions
They had set up a coordination committee - and that has vanished. And they have taken all the decisions unilaterally
We cannot cheat the people. Whatever we say on our manifesto, we have a commitment
Our ministers will now resign
We will be happy if you give 24 cylinders
We are not supporting the bandh. It harms our economy
If they (federal government) try and economically weaken us, the people will retaliate
