Vadodara: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today visited the 125-year-old Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara, the official residence to the royal Gaekwad family of Baroda.

Shubhanginidevi Raje, the former queen of the erstwhile princely state, hosted Mr Fadnavis, who spent an hour at the palace and visited the Darbar Hall and a weapons' museum there.

Ms Raje briefed Mr Fadnavis about the contribution of various Gaekwad rulers to the field of education, among others in Gujarat.

She also presented a book on Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III and a religious idol to the Chief Minister.

Mr Fadnavis had arrived in the city last evening to visit Garudeshwar town, situated 70 kms from here, on the occasion of 101st death anniversary of Maharashtrian spiritual leader Vasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj, he told reporters.

The samadhi (tomb) of Vasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj has been built on the river bank at Garudeshwar, where Fadnavis offered prayers for good and timely monsoon season in the country.
