Lokayukta raids top forest official in Madhya Pradesh, recovers 'assets worth Rs 40 crore'

Bhopal: The Lokayukta police today raided Chief Conservator of Forests Basant Kumar Singh's homes in Ujjain and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and reportedly found assets worth over Rs. 40 crore.

The list of alleged undeclared assets includes a petrol pump and a posh house in Varanasi, Rs. 7 lakh in cash and land in Uttar Pradesh.

"The investigation is on and till now lot of his properties have been exposed," said Padam Singh Baghel, DSP, Lokayukta.

Mr Singh, who was posted in Ujjain only six months ago, has allegedly amassed a residential plot in Bhopal, 150 acres of land in his village, a hotel in Banaras cantonment and has investment in various businesses.

Mr Singh had joined the forest department in 1987.
