Lalgarh violence intensifies

Lalgarh:

Maoist anarchy continues to be deadly in West Bengal; there is a complete break down of the administrative machinery. The area is just 170 kms from Kolkata but there is no one to stop them -- no administration, no police.

NDTV reporter has the first hand account of three CPM workers being killed and three others abducted on Wednesday.

The reporter witnessed a corpse lying in the open for three days unclaimed out of fear, mobs moving freely resorting to arson at will.

And on Wednesday more blood has been spilt in Lalgarh.

According to preliminary investigation Maoists might have been behind at least one of three CPM killed in Debi Chowk early on Wednesday morning.

Worryingly this attack took place just outside the Lalgarh sub-division -- a sign that the violence may be spreading.

This round of violence was triggered by a clash between Maoists and CPM cadre last week.

A policeman is a rare sight in any Lalgarh hotspot.

The Left front government has cautioned them not to open fire or aggravate the situation given the political fallout of the police firing in Nandigram.

So they've simply left. Police stations are routinely found empty. In the absence of any policing, Lalgarh is a lawless zone.
