Kerala lottery row: Congress gags Abhishek Manu Singhvi
New Delhi: The Congress has taken a serious view of its spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi's controversial act of representing lottery operators in Kerala and asked him not to hold any briefings.

"The party has taken serious note of it (Singhvi's action). The matter is under consideration of the party and therefore, it is implied that he will perhaps not brief...," party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said in New Delhi.

Singhvi's appearance in the case had raised a storm in the state unit which had launched a campaign against promoters of lotteries from outside the state and senior state Congress leaders had complained to AICC over his action.

"No confidence of interest was ever intended, it was purely under personal capacity. Nevertheless, keeping in view the sentiments, larger interests and the interests of the party, I have decided not to appear in this case," Singhvi had earlier said.

The ruling Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala have been engaged in a wordy duel over the lottery issue in the last few months.

The party has reportedly reprimanded him and asked him not to brief the media for now.
