Kasab to be moved to Pune's Yerwada Jail

Kasab to be moved to Pune's Yerwada Jail
Pune: Ajmal Kasab, sentenced to death for the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, will be shifted from Mumbai's Arthur Road jail to Pune, most likely in two months, according to sources.

In Pune, he will be kept  at the Yerwada Jail.

Kasab occupies  a bomb-proof and bullet-proof cell at the Arthur Road jail. One of the reasons for moving him out of here is that Mumbai's monorail project is picking up speed. The elevated line offers a clear view of the Arthur Road jail.

Further, Arthur Road Jail is meant for those whose cases are being tried. Kasab, however, has been convicted and sentenced. His appeal against his death sentence will be heard daily by the Bombay High Court, starting October 18.

Kasab had appealed last week to be allowed to meet with his lawyers without security officials nearby.  The Bombay High Court ruled against this. Judges were presented a copy of security camera footage which showed Kasab attacking a jail official on September 1. The state government argued that as a trained commando, he presents considerable danger to his lawyers, if he is allowed to consult with them in complete privacy.

At Pune's Yerwada Jail, a special cell will be upgraded to make it bullet-poof and safe from chemical and other sorts of attacks.

Ksaab was the only terrorist caught alive during the 26/11 attacks. He sailed into Mumbai with nine other Pakistanis. 166 people were killed in the Mumbai attacks.
