India Has Nothing To Do With Nepal Crisis, Say Government Sources

New Delhi: As India-Nepal ties take a hit over Kathmandu's allegations that New Delhi tried to overthrow Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government, top government sources said India has nothing to do with the crisis. The three main political parties in Nepal can't get their act together and find it easy to blame India, officials said.

Sources told NDTV that New Delhi believes the real issues in Nepal -- such as reconstruction after the earthquake -- are not being addressed.

India has so far not commented on the matter. Over the weekend, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav had tweeted saying the anti-India rhetoric was being used to mask the "internal power struggle".

Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari had recently cancelled her visit to India - her first foreign trip after taking office in response to President Pranab Mukherjee's invitation. The Himalayan state also recalled its Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay.

While Nepal had accused him of "non-cooperation": and indulging in "anti-government" activities, reports say Mr Upadhyay had "confronted" PM Oli about the cancellation of the Nepali President's visit to India.

Sources in Nepal had said Mr Upadhaya -- a former leader of the Nepali Congress -- was seen as being "too close" to India. There were concerns that he was trying to topple the Oli government.
