In Hyderabad, Chaitanya Reddy has been arrested for the murder of Kiran, his wife, who died earlier this week at their home in Jubilee Hills. Kiran's uncle is Union Minister Jaipal Reddy.
Kiran's family had accused her husband and his family of playing a part in her death. Chaitanya said today he was tortured by the police for five days and forced to sign a confession that states he killed her. "I loved my wife very much. I can't even think of doing anything like that," he said.
Post-mortem and other reports allegedly confirm that Kiran, who was a dermatologist, was smothered. Chaitanya and she have a four-year-old daughter.
"The accused was highly intoxicated, he was high on drinks and in a fit of rage, committed the offence," said Stephen Raveendra, a senior police officer investigating the case.
Chaitanya was drunk after the couple attended a bachelor party for Kiran's brother on Friday night. The couple slept in different rooms after they got home. The next morning, Chaitanya rushed his wife to Apollo Hospital after he allegedly found her unconscious. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.
