New Delhi: Four people have been arrested for the murder of a class XI student of Delhi's Kumaramangalam School.
The student, Ribbu Chawla, was killed after he was kidnapped on Monday.
Ribbu's parents had received a ransom call demanding Rs 60 lakh to be paid in three installments. They had paid the kidnappers Rs 20 lakh.
Ribbu's body was found in a jungle near Vasant Kunj in south Delhi on Wednesday.
The child was identified by his school uniform, police had said on Wednesday.
Ribu, whose father Sanjay Chawla runs a software business, was kidnapped by four unidentified men in a car at around 3:15 pm on Tuesday from Vikaspuri, a police official said.
"Ribu and his friend Shwetank were returning home in a two-wheeler when the men in the car hit their vehicle. There was a heated argument between Ribu and his kidnappers for a few minutes after which he was pushed into their car," he said.
Investigators suspect that those involved might be known to the family and due to the fear of being identified, they killed Ribu, the official said. Police is also questioning former and current employees of the Chawlas as well as domestic helps in the nearby areas.
<b>There have been other cases where the kidnapers knew the victims:</b>
- On July 24 this year, a 25-year-old son of a DRDO scientist in Delhi was rescued from his kidnappers that included a close friend. The kidnappers had demanded Rs three crore for his release.
- On March 19, 12-year-old Manan Mahajan was allegedly killed by his neighbour in Delhi's Rohini area.
- On April 11, two MBA students orchestrated the kidnapping of 15-year-old Class IX student from Delhi's Saket area. The boy was rescued from Gurgaon.
- In February in Mumbai, a student of Rizvi College was murdered by two of his classmates. They initially kidnapped him for ransom to buy exam papers but panicked and murdered him.
- In May 2008, an 18-year-old IIT aspirant was killed by a friend and neighbour in Delhi.
