For West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, A Busy Tuesday in Delhi

Yesterday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee had a busy day in Delhi, meeting leaders from various opposition parties.

New Delhi: Yesterday, the chief minister had a busy day in Delhi, meeting leaders from various opposition parties. From courtesy calls to walk-in meetings, she met Janata Dal United chief, Sharad Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president, and ended the day meeting the Delhi chief minister Mamata Banerjee over dinner.

Mr Kejriwal had said, "I am so very happy to meet Mamata today... Her warm hospitality touched my heart. There are some battles that we need to fight as one. Her party works for aam aadmi issues, so do we."

Earlier in the day, at her party office in Parliament complex, she had a 20 minute meeting with NCP leaders led by Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party's Jaya Bachchan too dropped in for a few minutes. Half an hour later, JDU's Sharad Yadav and K C Tyagi discussed the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar with the chief minister.

She managed to squeeze in time for senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad before the chief minister left to inaugurate the west Bengal emporium in central Delhi's Connaught Place.

Ms Banerjee is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today for seeking more help from the Centre to help flood victims in her state. Her party, the Trinamool Congress has 12 members in Rajya Sabha as the Centre tries to isolate the Congress and push for passage of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.

As a constitutional amendment bill, GST -- which seeks to create a pan-India tax regime and a common market, ending the multiplicity of central and state taxes -- needs the support of two-thirds of the House.
