Election Commission begins exercise to hold elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi: Election Commission (EC) is getting ready to hold assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh by this year end. EC is visiting Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh to set the ball rolling for the conduct of elections.

Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath and Election Commissioner HS Brahma would be visiting Ahmedabad on July 9 and Shimla on the July 12.

The Commission's visit is to galvanize the election machinery to get ready for the assembly polls and to check the preparedness.

The Commission would be meeting all political parties in Gujarat and HP seeking their views on holding elections.

The term of Gujarat assembly expires on the January 17, 2013 and a new house has to be constituted before January 17. The term for Himachal Pradesh assembly expires on January 10 next year.
