'Dishonour' killing in Rohtak

Rohtak: Fifteen-year-old Tapasya was allegedly killed at the behest of her father, Umed Singh, who suspected her of having an affair with a neighbourhood boy.

20 days after he filed a complaint with the police that Tapasya had gone missing, her body was found in a drain outside the city.

Police say the girl's father plotted the murder and asked the domestic help to execute the killing and dispose of the body.

Lured with the promise of money and a better future the domestic help strangled Tapasya.

"He (father) asked me not to divulge anything to anybody. He also offered me Rs 10,000 and promised to get me married and look after me," said Mohan, the domestic help.

"The servant has confessed to the crime. The motive has been established as 'honour killing'. We have collected credible evidences and arrested both the servant and the father," said B Satish Balan, SP, Rohtak

Umed Singh has been arrested but it seems government need to take some stern steps to check the menace of dishonour killings in Haryana.
