New Delhi: Attorney General KK Venugopal today said the unprecedented move by the four senior Supreme Court judges of taking on the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, in a press conference "could have been avoided" but underscored that the top judges would "fully resolve" their differences within a few days.
"You can take it from me that the whole of the differences will be settled in the next few days. You wait till day after tomorrow," the government's top lawyer told NDTV.
Mr Venugopal, who had a meeting with Chief Justice Misra after four top Supreme Court judges, in a press conference, said "things are not in order" with what they described as "the administration of the Supreme Court".
Those remarks were aimed at Chief Justice Dipak Misra. The judges said that their concerns include cases of "far-reaching consequences" being allocated without transparency and put out a letter written by them to the Chief Justice earlier.
Mr Venugopal said he thought the judges shouldn't have gone public and used other means to resolve the differences.
"But the judges, all being persons of great statesmanship, I'm sure within the next few days, the differences will be fully resolved. So please wait till tomorrow evening or the day after, and see what the position is," he told NDTV.
He explained that the judges had "suddenly realised that the electronic media would be giving tremendous exposure to what has happened, which would seriously affect litigant and public's confidence in the Supreme Court of India."
"What has happened today could have been avoided. The judges will now have to act in statesmanship and ensure that the divisiveness is wholly neutralised and total harmony and mutual understanding will prevail in future," he was later quoted as telling the Press Trust of India.
