Congress in Andhra Pradesh gets new chief

New Delhi: Seeking to put its house in order in Andhra Pradesh, the Congress today appointed senior state minister Botsa Satyanarayana as PCC President.

Botsa is a member of the influential Kapu community to which filmstar Chiranjeevi, who merged his Praja Rajyam Party with Congress, also belongs. Another senior minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, also belonging to the same community, was also in the running for the post of PCC chief.

Satyanarayana replaces D Srinivas as PCC chief in a state where the party is undergoing a churning following a crushing defeat in the Kadapa Lok Sabha bypolls against at the hands of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Congress nominee and state Health Minister D L Ravindra lost his deposit. N Kirankumar Reddy was made the Chief Minister sometime back in the state replacing K Rosaiah.
