Attack On RSS Leader Exposes Law And Order Situation In Punjab, Says AAP

RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja remains critical after he was shot at in an attack yesterday.

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party today condemned the attack on RSS leader in Jalandhar, saying it has "exposed" the prevailing law and order situation in Punjab.

Demanding an impartial probe into the attack on RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja by a sitting High court judge, AAP leader Sanjay Singh and party MP Bhagwant Mann said "Neither the religious book nor religious preacher is safe in Punjab. It is evident from the sacrilege incidents and attack on religious leaders."

In a joint statement Mr Singh and Mr Mann, also the Chairman of party's Campaign Committee, alleged that people were forced to live under threat as police has failed to provide them security.

"We may have ideological differences with RSS but such attack on any person is highly condemnable," they said, claiming that it was a conspiracy to disturb the communal harmony and peace in the state.

"There is a need for impartial probe by a sitting judge of High Court, as Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the attack is expected to meet the same fate which earlier SIT probes have met," Mr Singh said.

Mr Mann alleged law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated so much that police has failed to solve the cases of murder of Mata Chand Kaur of Namdhari Sect, attack on Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and missing of Swami Krishna Nand under mysterious circumstances.

"What can be a bigger failure than this that in spite of sacrilege incidents, nobody could be arrested by the police," Mr Mann said, adding that in Bargadi sacrilege case two "innocent" Sikh youth were arrested and tortured while in Malerkolta incident innocent party lawmaker Naresh Yadav has been falsely implicated by the Akalis.
