As Heat Wave Continues, Thousands Head to Snow-Clad Mountains in Sonmarg
Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir: While the rest of the country sweats it out in intense heat, it is snowing in Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, and the snow-clad mountains are being pushed as a major tourist destination.

Tourists are flocking here in large numbers for holidaying in the Himalayas.

Mumbai businessman Nitish Parekh is in Sonmarg with his family. He says he has come to Kashmir to see snow as back home in Mumbai it is very hot and humid and the snow provides them with some much-needed respite.

"Kashmir is like heaven, I have never seen a place like Kashmir before," Mr Parekh said.

As the heat wave continues, thousands of tourists are arriving in Kashmir every day and most of them heading to Sonmarg - with a white blanket of snow, the tourist resort looks like a fairyland, they say.

"It is really beautiful, how much you might have heard about Kashmir from your parents and from your senior generation, I don't think they have done justice to the description, this place is really surreal," said Gunjan, a tourist from Bengaluru.
