Chandigarh: A Chandigarh court on Tuesday enhanced former Haryana top cop SPS Rathore's sentence to one-and-a-half years for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra 20 years ago. Rathore has been taken into custody and will go to jail.
Anand Prakash, the father of Ruchika's close friend, Aradhana welcomed the verdict and said this would send out the signal that the powerful were not above the law. Prakash and his family waged a long battle for justice for Ruchika.
Commenting on the judgement Anand Parkash said, "We are proud of judiciary, it is the right decision. It has proved even a powerful man like Rathore cannot escape the punishment. Court has sentenced him to one-and-a-half years of jail and has ordered that Rahore should be taken into custody. Rathore's petition has been dismissed. I am satisfied with the judgement. We are satisfied that the court took his health into consideration and gave him six months respite. Our next step will be to expedite the three investigations going on. We will appeal for a two years punishment for him. He will go to jail today."
