- Isudan Gadhvi was released on bail after arrest for rioting at a police station protest
- The arrest followed a protest over detention of an AAP worker in a robbery case
- Gadhvi accused BJP of using police to suppress AAP and claimed rising party popularity
Following a day of high-voltage political drama, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat State President Isudan Gadhvi was released on bail late Wednesday night. Gadhvi, along with other party supporters, had been arrested by the Khambaliya police in Devbhumi Dwarka on charges of rioting and obstructing public servants during a heated protest at the local police station.
The arrest stemmed from an incident on April 1, when Gadhvi and his team arrived at the station to protest the detention of an AAP worker named Deepak in a robbery case. The police alleged that Gadhvi's group created chaos, intimidated on-duty staff, and used social media to broadcast live videos from inside the station to incite public unrest.
Upon his release, Gadhvi did not mince words, launching a sharp verbal offensive against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing people through video, outside the station, Gadhvi claimed that his arrest was a sign of the BJP's growing insecurity regarding AAP's rising popularity in Gujarat, especially with the state elections recently announced.
"The police are no longer acting independently; they are working strictly on instructions from the BJP office," Gadhvi alleged. "We went there to seek justice for a wrongly accused worker, and in return, they arrested us. This is a clear attempt to suppress our voice and harass our ground-level workers. It is murder of democracy."
Gadhvi further emphasised that such legal hurdles would not deter the party's momentum. "Our fight for the people will continue. The overwhelming support we received on social media and from the citizens today shows that Gujarat is ready for change. Satyamev Jayate," he added.
While the police maintain that the arrests were a necessary response to "unlawful assembly and rioting," the AAP leadership has framed the incident as a badge of honour. With the election season now in full swing, this confrontation at Khambaliya is expected to further polarise the political landscape in the Saurashtra region.
