892 People Killed in Road Accidents in Kashmir in Last 3 Years

As many as 892 people have died and 8,733 were injured in 6,067 road accidents in Kashmir Valley during the last three years, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative was informed today.

At least 2,880 people accused in causing deaths in road accidents have been punished for their involvement in criminal cases in the valley during the same period.

In a written reply to a question by member Yasir Reshi in Legislative Council, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that 892 people have died and 8,733 were injured in 6,067 road accidents in Kashmir valley during the last three years.

Giving further details, he said that 326 people were killed and 3,330 were injured in 2,185 accidents in 12 districts of Kashmir valley in 2012, followed by 309 people killed and 2,843 injured in 2,088 road accidents in 2013.

Similarly, 257 people were killed and 2,560 injured in 1,794 mishaps in 2014, he said.

The Chief Minister said that as regards, action against accused individuals responsible for road accidents, criminal cases have been registered by the police under relevant provisions of law in concerned police stations.

The Chief Minister also informed that ex-gratia as per norms has been provided to the kins of the deceased and to those who have been seriously injured.
