What does a bulky uterus signify?

My menstrual cycle is due since 20 days and the urine test shows negative for pregnancy? The physician feels that my uterus is bulky? What does this indicate?

A large number of causes exist for a bulky uterus. A markedly enlarged, bulky uterus suggests fibroids; a mildly enlarged, boggy, symmetric uterus suggests adenomyosis. It may also be due to endometrial tumours, ovarian cysts etc. An ultrasound examination will help in delineating the underlying cause.
