Does a small-sized kidney cause a problem?
Question
I am a 20 years old male, have been diagnosed with a shrunken right kidney measuring 7.9 cm. My left kidney measures 9.1 cm. The MRI shows that every thing including pancreas, lungs, heart, gall bladder is fine except my right kidney. Will it cause me any health problem in future?

You have an atrophic or what is called as small sized right kidney detected at a young age of 20 years. This may signify possibility of being born with it or having suffered recurrent urinary tract infection from a congenital defect, which may have damaged right kidney. Ultimately, as long as your kidney function (as interpreted from serum creatinine value) is normal with control of risk factors for kidney disease like high blood pressure, there should not be any cause of concern.
