Indian opener and run machine Shikhar Dhawan would be ringing in his 32nd birthday today. The opening batsman of the Indian cricket team, currently playing the series against Sri Lanka, also happens to be a role model for a generation. Be it his much talked about jolly avatar on the field and off, or his bolting fast runs, Shikhar always manages to earn a spot in the news. Another reason why Shikhar is always in news is because of his inspirational fitness regime, the reason behind those gravity-defying dives and flawless running between wickets. Here are a few of his diet and fitness secrets that may make you sit back and clap.
A balanced diet, including good amount of proteins, carbohydrates and fats makes up his diet regimen. Shikhar loads up on a lot of veggies and seasonal fruits for the necessary vitamins and antioxidants. Grilled chicken, fish with mashed potatoes, broccoli and sauteed vegetables are a regular fare on his plate. On his cheat days, the Delhi boy likes to indulge in aloo parathas, dosa, chicken curry and mutton rogan josh. Skipper Virat Kohli in one of his recent interviews with Gaurav Kapoor mentioned that Shikhar has an excellent metabolism. Guess that helps him burn up all the extra calories from the occasional rogan josh and chicken curries.
But it isn't just a fast metabolism that the fast batsman banks upon. His intensive training schedule helps him stay fit and agile too. Shikhar does 2 or 3 gym sessions per week, along with 1 or 2 cardio rounds. In addition to this he also engages in a lot of mobility training. Shikhar also does a lot of yoga and power-lifting. His training starts with a warm up session which lasts for half an hour, after which he engages in push press, it's a full body workout involving power training, lateral pull downs and sit-ups. Shikhar pays a lot of attention to building his core, and loves pumping his biceps too.
He also keeps giving a glimpse of what's on his plate and how is he training through his social media handle.
