Zayed Khan On Hrithik Roshan And Sussanne Khan's 14-Year Marriage: "It Wasn't Meant To Be"

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan announced their divorce after 14 years of marriage in 2014. Over the years, the former couple have scripted a new definition of their evolved relationship—respecting each other's space, showing up for each other in times of need, and co-parenting their sons.

Sussanne's brother, Zayed Khan, recently reflected on Hrithik and Sussanne's divorce and their new partners in an interview.

'It Wasn't Meant To Be'

Speaking to Zoom, Zayed Khan said there's no point holding onto something if it wasn't 'meant to be'.

"It wasn't meant to be. And it would be even worse if you try to hold on to something that isn't—both people suffer. For what? I mean, you have your children to look forward to, to participate in their lives, to witness the moments of them growing up, turning into such young, wonderful gentlemen. So that became the focus," said Zayed.

'We Are Not Pressure-Driven Family'

Zayed added that both families accepted the former couple's decision for a better future, instead of grudging against a painful present.

"It's done, it's finished. Now let's focus on this, and go find your version of happiness for yourself. We are not the typical, sort of society-pressure-driven family. We are a little more aware, a little more educated about certain things. And I know, by and large, people find it very bizarre. Some people are young, some people themselves are unhappy, some people just don't understand it, and that's okay. It's fine," Zayed added.

Zayed Khan on Saba Azad and Arslan Goni 

Hrithik Roshan is currently in a relationship with actor-singer Saba Azad, while Sussanne Khan has been dating Arslan Goni for quite some time.

Talking about finding new partners, Zayed said they have "amazing" ones.

"I think love is a very broad word. I think the respect and care they have for each other is even more meaningful. I think they've got amazing partners. I'm so fond of Saba (Hrithik's long-term girlfriend) and I think she's such a wonderful person. I'm so fond of Aashim (Sussanne's boyfriend), he's like my little junior brother. And you know, life goes on," Zayed added.

Despite the public scrutiny surrounding their lives, Zayed said, "It's very hard. At the end of the day, what is it? It's about having someone you trust—that's very important. Having the most honest sounding board is essential."

Hrithik and Sussanne married in 2000 and divorced in 2014. They continue to co-parent their sons, Hridhaan and Hrehaan.

Hrithik made his relationship with Saba Azad official at Karan Johar's 50th birthday party in 2022. Hrithik, Saba, Sussanne, and Arslan are often spotted together at family functions, parties, and vacations.
