Sony planning Jumanji reboot

  • Sony Pictures are planning a reboot of 1995 fantasy adventure Jumanji" and update it for the present.
  • Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, which is owned by Sony, confirmed that the production company is trying to reboot the 1995 fantasy adventure film, which starred Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt, the Hollywood Reporter said.
  • "We're going to try and reimagine Jumanji and update it for the present," Mr Belgrad said.
  • The original film was directed by Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston. It was a story of two children who discover a magic board game and release a man, Alan Parrish, played by Williams, who has been trapped in there for decades.
  • Besides saving Alan, the children accidentally unleash a number of jungle hazards, such as wild animals, into reality with each move they make, and they soon realise the dangers can only be stopped by finishing the game.
  • Mr Belgrad also said that Sony is also planning to create a sequel to Men in Black 3 as the company were very pleased with the financial performance of the latest film.
  • "We're very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3, and we believe it is an ongoing franchise.
  • We're going to do another one but we don't have clarity yet on how it should be done," Belgrad added.
