Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is all set for a box office clash with his former friend filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Mr Varma's film Veerappan will release on May 27, the same day as Anurag's film Raman Raghav 2.0.

Both the films deal with the lives of two of India's most notorious criminals. Mr Varma's film is a biopic of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan; in Anurag's movie, Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the eponymous serial killer of 1960s Mumbai.

When Mr Varma was asked whether Veerappan will clash with Anurag's film, he said, "Yes that's what I was told. His film Raman Raghav 2.0 is a biopic on a killer and our film is also a biopic on a killer. So, may the best killer win."

Anurag had worked with Mr Varma in many films, including Satya. When Mr Varma was asked about his cold war with Anurag, he said: "I never have a cold war. I only have a hot war. We have a bond. I love him and he hates me." (Also Read: RGV Intended Tweet For Anurag Kashyap, Finds Himself Arguing With KRK)

"We both are not making any films together. He hates all my films and I like some of his. Beyond this, there is no connection at all," said Mr Varma.

Mr Varma also said that he had liked the first instalment of Anurag's Gangs of Wasseypur.

Veerappan is the Hindi remake of the Kannada film which was also made by Mr Varma.
