If You Had My Love hitmaker's longtime manager, Benny Medina,orchestrated the deal.
If it comes true, she will join judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi on the panel as Simon Cowell also announced his departure from the show earlier this year.
Lopez previously served as a guest mentor to the contestants in 2007.
