Per industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 minted Rs 13.98 crore in India as of 5 pm on Friday.

Border 2 earned praise for its action and patriotism, but an emotional opening credits moment has deeply moved audiences. 

Sunny Deol paid tribute to his late father, Dharmendra, through his billing. Instead of standard credits, it read: "Sunny Deol (Dharmendra ji ka beta)". Dharmendra died on November 24, 2025.

Paramvir Singh Cheema, who plays the role of Subedar Nishaan Singh in Border 2, feared getting lost 'amid big stars'.

Speaking to ANI, he said, "When I heard the name Border, I obviously liked it as it's a big film. But I also had a doubt that I might get lost amid all the big stars. When you think about your journey, you think about how to move forward. Also, there's a lot of type casting. I wore a turban in Tabber and Black Warrant. So I didn't want people to see me in only turban roles where there's a lot more."

Anu Malik's iconic songs from Border have been recreated in the sequel. 

Speaking to ANI, the composer said, "The song is being recreated today, and it will be done tomorrow as well. Border is incomplete without Sunny Deol and Sandese Aate Hai. The people who have recreated the song, I would like to congratulate and wish them all the best. The recreated version should receive the same amount of love from the people. I want to wish Nidhi Dutta and JP sir all the best, and also the music composer and the lyricists, who are recreating it. I want people to embrace it wholeheartedly."

In Sunny Deol's Border 2, original cast members Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry make a special appearance. Dressed in uniform, they smile at Deol's character Fateh Singh in a gurudwara scene. As he remembers fallen comrades, the moment pays tribute to soldiers and JP Dutta's 1997 classic Border.

For Suniel Shetty, Border holds a special place in his life and career. He was a part of the original film, portraying a brave soldier who sacrifices his life for the nation. 

Speaking about Ahan joining the cast of Border 2, Suniel Shetty said, "The only thing I told him was, I don't know how much your father has achieved, but he has got a lot of love and respect. Keep that. Because it will come to you. The minute it comes to you, grab it with both hands and hold on to it, value it."

Javed Akhtar revealed that he had been approached by the makers of Border 2, but he refused.

"They did ask me to write for the film, but I refused. I really feel this is a kind of intellectual and creative bankruptcy. You have an old song that did well, and you want to put it out again by adding something? Suniel recently addressed the criticism and negative publicity surrounding his son, Ahan. He stated that while he prefers to let Ahan make his own career choices and select his own projects, he will speak up if someone targets him unfairly.

Diljit Dosanjh took to Instagram to share a series of BTS pictures from the film set. 

He wrote: "BORDER 2 Tomorrow Releasing Worldwide. Baut Hard Work Kita Sari Team Ne.. Baba Bhaag Lavey.. Anurag Bai Di 2 Saalan Di Mehnat Aa..NIRMAL JIT SINGH SEKHON is the only Indian Air Force Officer who received the Param Vir Chakra."

He added, "Film Vich Mainu Ona Da Kirdar Karn Da Mauka Mileya.. Mere Lai Maan Wali Gal Aa.. Shukar."

Casting director Mukesh Chabbra wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "It was emotionally and creatively challenging for us at Mukesh Chhabra Casting Company to work on Border 2. The film holds so many memories for all of us-we grew up deeply connected to Border. Being a part of Border 2 came with huge expectations and a great sense of responsibility."

All eyes are on whether Border 2 could beat Gadar 2's opening-day record for Sunny Deol. The 2023 hit earned Rs 17.6 crore in advance bookings alone. Border 2's screenings fell short on pre-sales. Still, strong spot bookings and walk-ins could boost its performance. Final figures will reveal if it challenges Gadar 2's Rs 40.10 crore opening day.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 achieved 19.46% Hindi (2D) occupancy for Day 1 morning shows. This edges out Dhurandhar's 15.49% for its own Day 1 morning Hindi (2D) shows, per Sacnilk. The figures suggest a stronger initial morning turnout for Border 2.

Moviegoers expecting the Dhurandhar 2 teaser with Border 2 screenings got a surprise. Instead, cinemas played the trailer for Anubhav Sinha's upcoming political drama Assi, starring Taapsee Pannu, before Border 2. 

Border 2's opening credits include a special thank-you note to veteran actor Boman Irani, despite his absence from the screen. Bollywood Hungama reported that Irani lent his voice for the film's opening narration. This segment sets the historical context of the 1971 India-Pakistan war before the story unfolds.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "border2 Review: border2 is a gripping and emotionally charged war drama/action movie that lives up to its scale and legacy.. sunnydeol delivers a thunderous, authoritative performance, bringing back the raw intensity and patriotic fire that defines the franchise. @varundhawan shines with a restrained yet powerful act, adding emotional depth and vulnerability to the narrative."

"On the acting front, Sunny Deol and Diljit Dosanjh are the bulwarks that stand firm even when the film strays into stretches that appear a tad inconsistent," writes Saibal Chatterjee in his review for NDTV. Read the full review here.

Sunny Deol frenzy reached its peak on Border 2 release day.  

On Border 2 release day, Sunny Deol assured fans, "No worries, no stress."

Vishal Mishra, who has lent his voice to the new rendition of JaateHueLamhon, shared a video to interact with fans.

A Sunny Deol fan couldn't keep calm and praised the film.

An enthusiastic fan wrote, "Just watched #Border2 and I'm honestly IMPRESSED! This isn't just a war film, it's a deeply emotional experience about people, families and sacrifices. The patriotism doesn't shout, it quietly settles in your chest and stays there."

Ajay Devgn shared a post and wrote, "Border 2 stands for courage, sacrifice, and deep-rooted love for the country." 

Rumours stating that the Dhurandhar 2 teaser would be attached to Border 2, which releases in cinemas today, January 23, were doing the rounds on the Internet for quite some time. 

However, Aditya Dhar dismissed the reports and wrote, "Teaser will be out in a few days." Read the full story here.

Border 2 producer Nidhi Dutta shared a then-and-now photo with her father, JP Dutta, the legendary filmmaker behind the 1997 classic Border. The caption read, "For the Legacy."

Ahead of the film's release, Varun shared several behind-the-scenes moments from the shoot and wrote a note about how the film pushed him to his limits.

As per the reports, "Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE will not be releasing Border 2. By now, it's given that films perceived as having 'anti-Pakistan' content don't get a release in this belt. Read the full story here.
